Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Devon's county service is at Exeter Cathedral at 4pm, no booking; the city service is at the Northernhay war memorial.
Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November. Exeter marks it twice: a civic service at the war memorial in Northernhay Gardens in the morning, and the Devon County Service inside Exeter Cathedral at 4pm. Both are open to everyone and neither needs a ticket. Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, has its own service at the cathedral.
The quick answer
- Devon County Service: Exeter Cathedral, 4pm, Sunday 8 November 2026. No booking required.
- City service: War Memorial, Northernhay Gardens, morning of 8 November. Last year the Lord Mayor arrived at 10.50am and the two-minute silence was at 11am. The 2026 running order is not published yet.

Checked against Exeter Cathedral’s and Exeter City Council’s own pages on 25 September 2026.
The morning: Northernhay Gardens
Exeter City Council has not yet published the 2026 order of events. Last year’s announcement came on 4 November, four days before the service. The 2025 running order was (Exeter City Council, 4 November 2025):
| Time (2025) | What happened |
|---|---|
| From 10am | Military contingents arrive at the War Memorial |
| 10.50am | The Lord Mayor and civic dignitaries arrive |
| 10.59am | The Exhortation, led by the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon, then the Last Post by buglers of the Salamanca Band of the Rifles |
| 11am | Two minutes’ silence, followed by Reveille |
| After | The Kohima Epitaph, then wreaths laid by dignitaries and military representatives |
The council said everyone was welcome, published the order of service online, and had a limited number of paper copies on the day. Last year the memorial was also dressed with panels of poppies, first made for the First World War centenary.
If you are planning around 2025’s times, get there before 10.50am, when the civic procession arrives, to be in place for the silence.
The afternoon: Devon County Service at the cathedral
The cathedral’s own listing confirms the 2026 service (Exeter Cathedral, Remembrance Sunday Devon County Service 2026):
- When: Sunday 8 November 2026, 4pm
- Who: music from Exeter Cathedral Choir, attended by military and veterans’ associations
- Booking: none needed; the cathedral says “everyone is warmly invited”
- Wreaths: passed to the Dean of Exeter during the service, placed in the Devon and Dorset Regimental Chapel, then laid at the War Memorial on Cathedral Green on Armistice Day
Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November
Exeter Cathedral holds an Armistice Day service from 10.45am, with a two-minute silence and prayers. All are welcome and no booking is needed (Exeter Cathedral, Armistice Day Service 2026).
